Many organizations in Barbour County are sharing information on COVID-19 so that we can reach citizens who do not regularly use the internet or have access to good local information. With so many sources of information available, even people with multiple connections can find it challenging to know who has the information they need in a timely manner.
Good local information is provided to the public through the Barbour County Chamber of Commerce email newsletters. To sign up for the newsletter, go to the Barbour County Chamber of Commerce web page.
Facebook users will find it helpful to go to Mayor Jack Tibbs and local officials’ Facebook pages or the Chamber’s Facebook/Instagram sites. Anyone with a smartphone or computer can download the SeeClickFix app for the city of Eufaula to get local information concerning the virus outbreak. The app is free and easy to download.
Medical Center Barbour will be posting daily updates on its webpage so that everyone knows exactly the number of patients who have been tested, how many people have positive tests, and how many negative tests have been completed. This information will be shared on Medical Center Barbour’s social media outlets as well (Facebook, Instagram, twitter.)
To reach people who do not have access to these online sites, organizations are working with local religious groups, the senior center, and other community-based programs. Organizations that would like to help with this outreach can contact Linda Coogan RN at 334-232-8123. Linda is member of our community and a nurse with national experience in helping healthcare organizations prepare for infectious disease outbreaks.
For those of you who need materials to distribute to this population, use the same contact number: 334-232-8123.
